If You’re Entertaining Or Gifting, Here Are A Couple Of Tips

• Stick to the classics, such as a California Cabernet. Ten years ago, I worked at Louis Martini in Napa. They are pioneers in Napa wines, dating back to the 1930s. Any bottle of Cab from them would be a hit.
• Most people like Italian food, so you can never go wrong with an Italian bottle of Chianti, Montepulciano, or an Italian Red Blend. Try San Polo Brunello made by my friend Marilisa Allegrini and her two daughters from Allegrini Estates.
•  If you’re buying for someone who loves wine, trust me with Esprit de Pavie. This is a from a Grand Cru winery in St. Émilion that I visited this past summer. Their wines sell for thousands of dollars and this second label of theirs is under $30.

Let’s Break Down The Bubbles Out of the thousands of bottles of Champagne we sell every year, 75% will be sold this month. If you want a great bottle of sparkling that won’t break the bank, look for a Prosecco, usually under $15 a bottle. If you want to step it up a notch, California makes great sparkling wines for under $40. If you’re celebrating, then splurge on a bottle of Champagne. Dom Perignon is one of the most well-known and my brother-in-law, Vincent, is head winemaker there. It’s a great bottle of Champagne and I’m still waiting for that friends and family discount!
